C. elegans Growth Timelines
Highly synchronous populations of C. elegans larvae can be obtained by hypochlorite treating adult animals, and letting the eggs hatch in S-medium without food. In the absence of food, L1 larvae do not start development. Upon addition of food or transfer of larvae to seeded plates, larvae will start to develop synchronously. The following figure show the approximate timelines of C. elegans larvae developing at different temperatures.
